What is Tunespotting?Tunespotting is a melody search engine. You can use the site in a variety of ways, either to find a tune that's been haunting you, or to discover new tunes. We have a database of many thousands of melodies, ranging from classical to popular, jazz to folk. You can browse the database by artist, or by descriptive tag, but above and beyond that, you can search by playing your computer keyboard or by entering notes on a stave. Once you've found the tune, where possible, we link through to appropriate sites where you can buy or download the tune in question as sheet music, CD or mp3. Not just for musicians. For musicians in particular, our unique notator software is a real boon, as it means you can enter a phrase from a famous melody using real notes. You don't have to get things in the right key; you don't even need to get the rhythms and pitches exactly right. Our sophisticated search technology matches tunes based on the contour of the melody you enter and is amazingly successful. But as a non-musician you can also search by bashing out an approximation of the melody on your keyboard! As long as you get the ups and downs reasonably accurate and give the rhythm your best shot, you stand a good chance of finding the tune you're after. We need your help!
